When you buy a console, you know that you'll eventually have to buy a new controller. The suckers can usually take a lot of wear and tear, but they eventually have to break down. Unless you want a cheap knock-off, you have to stick to first party controllers. Sure, they're more expensive, but they're guaranteed to last a lot longer than the other guys.
Things are a little different with the Nintendo Switch. And unfortunately, they're different in a bad way. You have a few different options in a new controller, but each one will put a strain on your wallet. If you end up wanting a new set of Joy-Con controllers, those will set you back about $80. What about if you just have to get one, like as a replacement? Buckle up, because just one costs $50 by itself. And if you'd rather use the more classic Pro Controller? That's $70. There's no way out.
HD Rumble doesn't come cheap, you know?
It may cost so much because of all the internal hardware. They are advertised to have sensors, advanced rumble, more sensors, buttons, and pretty much everything else. So maybe it's not really a rip-off. Regardless, for a Nintendo console that only costs $299.99, $80 for controllers is pretty steep.
