Great news falls on fans of Shin Megami Tensei, the popular grim RPG series. Nintendo has announced not only a new main series game, but a remaster of the third game as well. Introducing Shin Megami Tensei V and Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster.

The news came from a recent Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase. This variation of the Nintendo Direct announcement program was smaller than average, with a focus on third party projects and games. The full broadcast, available here, revealed new information about games like Rouge Company, WWE, Cadence of Hyrule, and Shin Megami Tensei of course.

Lets start with Shin Megami Tensei V. It is fifth in an RPG series developed by ATLUS (known for Persona, Trauma Center, and Catherine). Not much is known about the plot. It follows the traditional theme of demons of chaos threatening the concept of order in the real world. The trailer implies that they have succeeded, and the protagonist has to undo their efforts. Shin Megami Tensei V will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch some time in Spring of 2021.

Alongside that, they also announced Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster. This, as the name implies, is a remaster of the third game, which was released 17 years ago on the PlayStation 2. Simply known as Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne in the United States, it takes place in a separate continuity from the previous games. Here, Modern day Tokyo is destroyed in an event called the Conception, filling the space where it once was with a magical sphere full of demons and otherworldly concepts. This game will be released on Nintendo Switch in Spring of 2021.

Fun Fact: The Persona game series is actually a spinoff of the Megami Tensei games. Though I admittedly am not familiar enough with the two games to know in what capacity theyre connected.
