In a press release yesterday, Nintendo announced having the top hardware sales for October.
According to the NPD Group, an organization that keeps track of video game sales in the U.S., the Nintendo Switch outsold all other hardware last month, with the Super NES Classic Edition taking second place. Due to the massive popularity of these Nintendo consoles, paired with sales from Xbox and PlayStation, more than 1 million hardware units sold in October, a first since 2011.
While the holiday season drawing near is no doubt an influence in the increase of hardware sales, it was Nintendo's recent game selection that had the biggest influence. Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch was the highest selling video game in that month, even though it released on October 27th. We previously reported how by October 30th, over 2 million copies of Super Mario Odyssey had already been sold.
It's more than just Mario selling hardware. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild ranked at No. 10 and No. 11 as individual game sales, respectively, despite having released nearly half a year earlier.
This is certainly fantastic news for Nintendo. Though with the November release of the Xbox One X, a more powerful Xbox, It can be assumed that Nintendo will have to take 2nd place for November sales.
