Nintendo Officially Details Nintendo Switch Online Service

I still feel as if the smartphone app for voice chat is a bad idea.

Let's talk about Nintendo Switch Online, which was officially detailed today.

This service, which will debut in 2018, will let Nintendo Switch owners take advantage of online multiplayer gaming while relying on a dedicated smartphone app that allows you to voice chat with others.

Which is - in my opinion - such an unfortunate, convoluted system that it boggles my mind.

That, and I feel bad for those who don't own a smartphone because there are still quite a few people who don't own one. Maybe a cell phone, but not a smartphone.

Nevertheless, here are the details that you should soak up:
  • Online play is currently free until 2018, when Nintendo Online will debut. When the program debuts, you'll be able to play compatible co-op and competitive games online by signing in with your Nintendo Account. Note that this will only affect the Nintendo Switch.
  • What is also coming in 2018 is online lobby and voice chat, as I have already explained. With the online lobby, which is access via the smart device app, you'll be able to invite friends to play online, set play appointments and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games.
  • There will be a free, limited version of the app headed to smart devices in the summer of 2017.
  • You'll be able to access a classic game selection, such as Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight, and Dr. Mario.
Additionally, you'll be able to take advantage of special Nintendo eShop deals.

So this will be similar to PlayStation Plus. However, the service is also cheaper. How so?

Well, the pricing for one month of membership is just $3.99 USD. For three months, it will be $7.99 USD. For a full year, the service will be priced at $19.99. So will you be taking advantage of this program?

Do you even have a Nintendo Switch? I mean, there still is a hefty shortage of them, so...
