Nintendo Discusses Fire Emblem: Fates and How You Can Buy It

Apparently it's very complicated, so we need this reminer.

Fire Emblem: Fates has been out in Japan for a quite a while, and from what we’ve heard it’s apparently quite the game, easily equal to Awakening despite the fact you have to buy the game three times to get the full experience. Well, with the Western Release fast approaching, people are finding themselves hung up on that final question--in Japan, the “Birthright” and “Conquest” games were there in full, and to experience them both you indeed had to pay for it… then to get the ‘Revelations’ path, which was released later, you had to first beat the game with one or both versions then buy it.

It’s quite an expensive mess, in short.

Well, we didn’t get new trailers or screenshots of the English version in the latest Nintendo Direct, but they still spoke about it for a bit--namely, they discussed just how buying it would work, since simplifying that particular tangled web can only be a good thing.

As they explained, you can either buy the Conquest or Birthright edition for full retail price, around 40 bucks. Once you play through it and finish it, you can buy Revelations as a digital add-on for 20 bucks… but you can ALSO buy the other version you haven’t beaten yet for 20 bucks online as well, meaning that a theoretically 100-dollar experience has gotten a 20% discount. Not bad!

In fact, you can even buy all three games for 80 bucks at release, if you don’t feel like grabbing them separately.

Considering people have repeatedly said that Fates two separate stories are so different that they’re basically different games, I feel pretty comfortable calling this a nice deal. I suppose you can be the judge of that yourself, though, come February 19th. Assuming you buy it.
