Video game console companies have their highs and lows. So far, Microsoft and Sony have not had the greatest library of games. Though Microsoft was doing strongly in the previous generation of gaming, Sony topped the charts for 2014. Unfortunately, Nintendo lagged behind, despite the recent success with Super Smash Bros.
It appears that Nintendo has noted this issue and is already in the early stages of planning. Planning for what, though? A new video game console! The Wii U is currently in its 3rd year, ahead in release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, but behind both in sales. We may see another unique console, as Nintendo always attempts to innovate, without the fear of success or failure.
Nintendo still plans on focusing on the Wii U, but there are already ideas bouncing back and forth about the new system, one being that Mario may be a launch title, boasting with features that are different than what we have seen - Yes, a bit more different than cat Mario. Maybe a unique take on a Mario RPG with virtual reality?
Is another innovative Mario actually a good plan, though? I'm not sure, especially since people haven't been entirely super keen on Super Mario World 3D (though I am in love with the game). Still, that does not stop them from innovating Mario, and I think they should persist with innovating Mario. I am definitely curious to see what their new system would end up as, especially since Nintendo is determined to bring back fans that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have won. Do you believe that Nintendo should continue to focus on console innovation? Despite the power that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 carry in their systems, I really think it's the catalog of games that they offer that buys the customer, not the actual system. Then again, plenty of people make 1080p and 60 FPS seem very important nowadays...
