Nintendo Assures Animal Crossing fans that New Horizons has New Content Coming

Not indication as to what, though.

Animal Crossing fans are growing restless and disheartened. The hit 2020 game has gone a suspiciously long time without anything new. But Nintendo assures them that more content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in the works.

Nintendos official Twitter account recently posted a notice, informing folks that an update to the popular Nintendo Switch game will be dropping on July 29. The update will contain new seasonal items and will re-implement the August-wide firework show events.

Not everyone is happy with this (well explain why in a moment), however. And it seems like Nintendo knows it, since they followed that up with reassurance that new content for the game is currently in development.

In addition to these updates, more free content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently in development for later this year. More information will be shared in the future, so please stay tuned. Thank you for your support and patience.

So why the need to say?

Nintendo has set a strange situation for themselves. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, in its own right, is a fantastic game that I and countless others spent probably too many hours playing. But people are waiting for more. Two components of the game and its history have established a certain precedent for the game to have more content.

First, a handful of aspects from past games were missing. Certain recurring characters, along with their gameplay gimmicks remained absent, this originally included things like Jolly Redd selling fake art, the entire art collection component, Brewster and his café, Gracie the fashion icon and her style events, and swimming/diving for sea creatures. These were all missing. So while New Horizons had expanded in its own way, the absence of these components had long-time fans wanting.

This was made worse when Nintendo promised a selection of post-launch updates to add more content. And they did. Every couple of months, wed see an update to the game adding in new concepts like festivals, and even the return of Redd, artwork, and ocean swimming. All of this combined to set an expectation that the remaining missing content would also return. But many of it hasnt. Brewster and his Café remains to be one of the most commonly requested updates, along with the Gyroid noise makers.

Concern grew as the updates to the game grew smaller and less impressive. The ocean swimming update was a year ago as of last Sunday. Many of the updates since have been new collectable items. And while thats great for some, those not interested in collecting furniture are finding this underwhelming.

Will the upcoming content they promise be something big like people expect, or will it be another event-type addition that mostly just adds new furniture? Only time will tell.
