Nintendo and Disney Team Up for Video Game TV Show

Does this count as eSports?

Nintendo has teamed up with an unexpected, but unsurprising partner: Disney. The two companies are now working together to produce a new television show, known as the Nintendo Switch Family Showdown.

The show takes four families and has them compete in a number of Nintendo Switch games. This includes finding collectibles in Super Mario Odyssey, tennis matches in Mario Tennis Aces, and even dance-offs in Just Dance 2018. Does this count as eSports?

Nintendo Switch Family Showdown is set to premiere this summer on Disney, Disney XD, and the DisneyNOW app.

This is a perfect example of how Nintendo is slowly working its way back to the top as a video game giant. With the lackluster launch of the Nintendo Wii U, the company fell back to the wayside as current gen projects by Microsoft and Sony took off. Now the Switch has proven itself a hearty contender, and this shows that people are interested.

While this vaguely interests me, I don't think I'll be watching it. I don't have cable.
