And these games are expected to be diamonds in the rough.

Nintendo is absolutely serious about bringing smartphone titles to the market. Not only has the company paired up with DeNA, but it has outlined plans to move forward into the mobile market. Earlier we've noted that Nintendo would bring its own IPs to iPhone and Android, but these new games, which are expected to be of high quality and reach hundreds of millions of consumers, are not to be released until at least 2017.

To look at the bright side, there plans for five smartphone-focused games. Quoting President Satoru Iwata:

"You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment ot the smart device business.

All of our IP can be considered for a smart device game. On the other hand, since the game business on smart devices is already severely competitive, even with highly popular IP, the odds of success are quite low if consumers cannot appreciate the quality of a game."

Basically, it's the reason why there are no ports of Nintendo games arriving on smartphones. Overall, the smartphone game division will be led by Hideki Konno, famous for producing Mario Kart.

Nevertheless I feel that the games are definitely in good hands and that Nintendo will create nothing but "diamond" titles for smartphones.
