While reviews for the game weren't exactly bad, they also weren't exactly good -- most reviewers called it a competently-made but shallow experience that didn't offer any compelling hooks to stick around. It seems the player base largely agrees, because Ninja Theory just announced via Twitter they're going to stop adding new content to the game so they can focus on other projects.
With the studio now focusing on our new projects (Senua’s Saga, Project Mara & The Insight Project) we have decided that there will be no further content updates for Bleeding Edge. The game is still playable on Xbox and PC. Thank you to the fans & keep teaming up & causing chaos!
The game isn't shutting down: players can continue to buy it and play it at their leisure. However, no new maps, characters, or skins will be added, which basically means the game is "complete". Granted, for hardcore Bleeding Edge fans, that won't be much of a chance of pace -- the last major content update was in July of 2020, so it's not exactly like content was spilling out of the seams.
In any case, it's known that Ninja Theory is currently working on a sequel to Hellblade, and a horror game set in a super-realistic apartment. They're also working on a third project, which is thus far a mystery. Hopefully, they all fare better.
