Ninja Theory is back, and it brought its first self-published IP with it. Introducing Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga, a sequel to the hit psychological thriller game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

The follow-up game was announced during the 2019 Game Awards. It was part of the reveal of the Xbox Series X, the official name for their next-generation console (previously known as Project Scarlett). Revealed immediately after the console, it boasted that the footage shown was actually in-game rendering.

The video includes music by Heilung, an experimental folk band made up of members from Denmark, Norway, and Germany. The group takes inspiration for their work from Iron Age-era texts from Celtic and Viking artifacts. This fits perfectly with the Norse style of the game.

The original game, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, was developed by Ninja Theory in August of 2017. It told the story of a woman named Senua as she struggled with Schizophrenia in an ancient, Norse-like setting. Since its release, it has garnered a great deal of attention for its honest and accurate portrayal of the suffering of mental illness and has received countless praise for how well the experience is handled.

Senua's Saga appears to follow the same character. The trailer was likely intended to be more of a display of cool effect than to really indicate toward the plot of the game. Given how the last game went, the story probably can't be easily summed up anyway.

More information about Hellblade 2: Senua's Saga, including release date, will be revealed in the near future.
