Times change, however. Games like Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball cast a massive shadow over the crass content of Night Trap. What made it so different was that it was there first.
Back at the peak of the controversy, Nintendo of America stated that Night Trap would never appear on a Nintendo game system.
In the past year, some very violent and offensive games have reached the market, and of course I'm speaking about Mortal Kombat and Night Trap. And let me say that for the record, I want to state that Night Trap will never appear on a Nintendo system. Obviously it would not pass our guidelines. This game which promotes violence against women, simply has no place in our society.
It's been 25 years since Night Trap released, and with this anniversary comes a special Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition for Nintendo Switch.
Truly a sign that the company has evolved over the ages, Nintendo has acknowledged that society is an ever-changing entity and they're more accepting of previously taboo topics.
Being developed by Screaming Villians, there's currently no word on when the game will release.
