Video games are growing in profit and popularity every year. In 2012, reports say the industry brought in around $63 billion a year. This consists of all platforms from consoles, PC's, even mobile gaming. In some places of the world that don't have an outstanding internet infrastructure, using a mobile device is your only option for online gaming. And that's exactly what Maliyo, a Nigerian studio are counting on.
According to Yahoo! News, figures clearly show the trend in Nigeria, "Africa's most populous nation with 170 million residents and nearly 100 million mobile phone users in 2012. In 2011 it is estimated that 46 million people used Internet, up from 2008 when there were only 11 million Internet users." With numbers like that, it's no wonder why Mosquito Smasher and Okada Ride are successful. They represent what the local's have to deal with on a daily basis.
Games like Mosquito Smasher and Okada Ride give us a little insight into the daily activities in Nigeria and surrounding areas. Though the mobile platform seems to be flooded with games in some parts of the world. For others this is a viable means of fun and entertainment. As games grow in popularity in other parts of the world, hopefully we will see these countries establish more studio's, create more games, and thus leading to unique insights into the lives of others.
