NieR: Automata is shaping up to be my personal 2017 "Game of the Year." With promises of a deep, mature story, an absolutely mind-alluring soundtrack, and gameplay to complement the plot's depth, Automata is sure to burrow its way into the hearts of gamers everywhere, both old and new to the NieR franchise.
That being said, if you're not a fan of the hack and slash aspects of Automata and are more in it for the story, then here's a little bit of good news, deriving from TGS 2016:
At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Automata suggested that it will be featuring what is known to be an 'Auto Mode,' which allows the AI to take over and defeat all the trash mobs for you.
This is according to Siliconera, which also reported that Auto Mode will focus on both defensive and offensive stances. That being said, the AI might prove to be a little weak against bosses, so you may have to either gear up properly or take over the battle yourself. But the best part is that the Auto and Manual functions can be switched at any time. Not only that, but you can configure the Auto Mode to suit your needs.
BUUUUT, this mode is only available on Easy Mode. So basically, if you're in it for the story, then it's simply best to grab Auto Mode by the horns and use it to propel you further into the narrative. Otherwise, just stick to Normal Mode. I know I sure will be. I enjoy a good fight.
NieR: Automata will launch on February 23, 2017 in Japan and sometime during 2017 in the West.
