Nidhogg 2 is the sequel to the original Nidhogg, which came out back in 2014. While the original did receive some decent reviews, it seemed to be lacking in a few different areas. The main complaint was that the game just looked very plain and ordinary. For the sequel, Messhof has completely changed up the art style. The game is now looking sharper, more energetic, and not nearly as boring.

Messhof is the developer of both the original and the sequel, outlining the major changes to Nidhogg 2 on a PlayStation Blog post. It seems as though the basic style that was associated with the original Nidhogg was due to the overall fluidity of the movements. By adding something simple, like a mask or piece of clothing, hours would be spent as every single frame of motion had to be adjusted. For that simple reason, they decided to take a basic approach.

They're really stepping it up for Nidhogg 2, and from what I've seen so far, it seems to be paying off. This certainly isn't a AAA title, but it does look like a great game to sit down and play with your buddies. Check out the gameplay down below and wait for the game's full release on August 15.
