You recall, earlier, we discussed at brief a new Xbox One controller that would finally come equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones, so you wouldnt have to rely on any other peripherals to listen to your games privately? You might remember I mocked how simple an upgrade it was compared to the things Sony was doing, well, now, with Microsofts E3 presentation having come to a closethey certainly made me eat my words.

This new and improved Xbox One controller isnt merely the product of a new audio jackI dare say its a honest-to-god masterpiece of hardware design, and well-deserving of its elite moniker. Congratulations, Microsoft, for I am awedcheck this out!

Oh geeze where to begin: this controller has it all! The long and the short of it is that the Xbox One Elite controller is basically crazy customizablewith most of the buttons, paddles, grips and even the control sticks able to be removed and replaced with either new or more useful parts for whatever game needs playing. The inclusion of a hair trigger for the shoulder buttons is, frankly, the kind of thing Im surprised we didnt think of sooner, and the upgraded D-pad which looks more like a D than ever before, honestly looks both modern and really, really useful, especially for fighting games.

Its not often I say a controller is a console mover, but in this case wow.

Of course, we know it looks cool, but thats pretty much all we knowwhat were not sure of, critically, is how much it costs, and how many parts can be swapped with what. Since this is being called the Elite, I very much doubt it will be standard in all Xbox Ones in the future, so I would imagine it would be very expensive, which well, makes it a bit of a harder sell, at least over here. Also, if everything can be removed or swapped, does that mean your buttons or control stick are at risk of leaving their slots if you move them too hard?

All questions for another day, I suppose. In the meantime, I think I need to watch that video again: I cant think of the last time a hardware commercial got my blood pumping so hard.

...or maybe thats just my diabetes.
