I think everyone can agree the Witcher 3 is a pretty great game. It’s got an engaging plot, tight combat, a killer soundtrack, likeable characters, a huge world, and sex on top of a unicorn. Add a jetpack and a sassy black sidekick and it’s everything a gamer could ever want, right?
Well, not so much. There was a great deal of controversy surrounding the game due to, you guessed it, graphics. Much like Aliens: Colonial Marines, The Witcher 3 looked much, much more impressive in early ads than it did in its final product, and while no one can say it looks ugly, it’s certainly not up to the insane standards set in the original marketing material. And you know how PC gamers are with their graphics.
Well, fret no more, snobby PC master race. A new patch, 1.04, will allow players to improve the graphical fidelity of their game to even more ridiculous heights. The patch "texture rendering quality for the high and ultra presets”, as well as aperformance boost for NVIDIA Hairworks and fix the game's resolution settings so that the 1280x720 resolution actually works.
Other stuff includes allowing for custom key binding, improve stability, and make minor tweaks to the UI.
Good? Yes. But even these upgraded graphics aren’t up to snuff compared to the early promotional materials. I very much doubt it will be enough to quell the anger of the PC master race, but it’s a step in the right direction if nothing else—besides, to make a game look that good while keeping it’s gigantic size, well… as studio head Adam Badowski said, it’s pretty unrealistic. That won’t stop PC gamers from feeling cheated, but… if this is the best we can do, I guess you’ll have to make due with the fact the rest of the game is still fantastic.
I believe the term for this would be “first world problem”.
