Uncharted 4 is coming out May 10th worldwide (Unless you happen to have hijacked a truck from Sony lately, in which case you’re already playing it), and people are getting super excited about this final chapter in Nathan Drake’s long, illustrious career as a relic thief and dirty t-shirt model. As those final days count down, Naughty Dog has been drip-feeding us more and more information about the game, and with it a mere week away, they decided to open the floodgates and release a torrent of new information on the game…’s multiplayer mode.
Not perfect, but hey, no one’s complaining.
You can read the full blog post here, and it’s absolutely worth a look if you’re a hardcore Uncharted fan, but if you’ve just got a passing interest, then here’s a quick summery:
-A big theme of the post is emphasizing the fact that Naughty Dog does not want to splinter up the multiplayer community behind paid DLC. So while the game will be getting new maps, weapons, relics and cosmetics, everything will be either given away for free (like the maps) or unlockable in-game (such as cosmetics). You can still buy stuff, of course, but you don’t HAVE too. Patience can also give you what you seek.
-Along those lines, most content in the game, be it weapons or skins or relics, will be unlocked via chests. Chests are purchased with in-game currency, called relics, and will give player some random loot. So while you may have to play a lot to get exactly what you’re looking for, Naughty Dog assures us you’ll never get repeated loot—so if you really throw your life into it, you can get absolutely everything for free.
-There’s a big ol’ roadmap for the post-launch multiplayer growth on the page, but a lot of it is just “more skins” or “more weapons”. More interesting is that come summer, we can expect more maps. Autumn will include a co-op mode for local play, and winter+next spring… will be more of the same. Can’t make new maps forever, I suppose.
-There will be more than one mode, of course. Command has you capture objectives and get a steady stream of points, or you can assassinate the enemy captain, or the player doing the best, for a large chunk of points. Team Deathmatch is your standard multiplayer mode, and will have a ranked mode, where you can crawl up the rankings from bronze 3 to diamond 1. And finally, plunder mode is basically capture the flag.
That about sums it up. Check out the article for all the gritty details, and get those thumbs ready for some treasure-plunder action!
