New Syndrome Trailer Launches at Gamescom

In some way or another, you've seen it before.

At Gamescom, the guys at Camel 101 showed off a trailer for their upcoming game, Syndrome. It starts off with some pretty standard (see: predictable) space horror plot. There's a guy waking from cryogenic stasis to find everybody dead from space madness and horrible creatures.  There's talk of some kind of space artifact that caused the whole thing. Hell, there's even some mention of androids of some kind (that, I'm guessing, turn out to be malfunctioning).

Here's a game, try to spot anything original in the trailer.

Look, the game has a chance at being solid. This trailer, though, appears to be so safe and vanilla, that's it's boring. Every single aspect of this has been done before, and it's probably been done better. Waking from cryogenic stasis to find the crew has gone insane and that there are crazy creatures on board? That's Pandorum. Alien artifact causing trouble? That's Supernova. Space AI with unsavory intentions? That's Alien and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Space Madness? That's Sunshine. And Event Horizon. And just so so many more. Once again, I'm not saying it's going to be bad (though it's sure to be far from the best). I'm just saying that so far, it appears to be "Predictability: The Game."
