Street Fighter 5’s whole gimmick--I mean, other than being a Street Fighter game--was that rather than offer players a robust roster that would later move on to be flushed out with DLC, Street Fighter 5 instead opted to have a much smaller roster with individual fighters being added over time… which could either be purchased with premium currency, AKA “Zenny”, or bought with Fight Money, a currency earned through fighting people in-game. Kind of like a MOBA, except a little more annoying because the amount of fight money you get isn’t… well… fantastic.

Well, today, that’s all changing: not only has the in-game store finally opened, but the first DLC fighter, Alex from Street Fighter 3, has been released to the public as the first new warrior you can add to your roster. Check out his trailer:

Now, this is swell and all, but Capcom has made things even nicer by announcing that to celebrate the first DLC--available for Fight Money, the season pass, or Zenny, when the store opens up--you’ll be able to play Alex free, for a time, which will be the standard mode of operation until the Zenny store is officially opened. But Capcom still wasn’t done:

"Finally, as a way of thanking players for their patience and understanding throughout the beta phases and game launch, Capcom is making Ryu and Chun-Li's Story Mode Costumes available for free to all users beginning today. This is an 80,000 Fight Money value; almost the full amount of a new character. Capcom is planning to release a steady stream of new characters, modes and other enhancements throughout the year and the Street Fighter V team is excited to begin the robust post launch support this week."

That’s pretty neat. So get out there and enjoy those new costumes and fighters, Street Fighter players: it’s only for a limited time!
