Unless you've been living under a virtual rock, or haven't been keeping up to date with probably the most anticipated PC crowdfunded game in history, then you've most likely heard of Star Citizen. People love space, and rightfully so. There's so much potential for space games, but no developer has really nailed the sci-fi genre in a big way yet. While Mass Effect is definitely one of the more popular space games, it's fairly linear and doesn't really satisfy our space needs.
Star Citizen, on the other hand, is without a doubt the most ambitious open-world science fiction game in the history of gaming, and since it's so innovative, it's taking a long time to develop. It's been delayed several times, but it's been for good reasons. A game this size needs to be fully polished before release, and I think the community is sick and tired of unfinished science fiction games... coughNo Mans Skycough... ahemMass Effect: Andromedaahem. The point is, Star Citizen is a crowdfunded game, and it's most likely one of the most successful crowdfunded games in history.
Star Citizen recently surpassed $146 million in funding with over 1.7 million people having already signed up for updates (via DualShockers). After reaching this new milestone, Star Citizen has released its newest educational video. It's not at all a gameplay video, so don't get your hopes up, but if you're very interested and excited about the game, I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it. It's basically a detailed breakdown of what the developers have achieved in the last month and a deep dive into the real nitty-gritty of the development process.
Star Citizen does not have a specific release date, but it's expected to release at some point this year. I definitely wouldn't get your hopes up too high since they have delayed it several times already. This game is definitely one that requires some patience.
