What does Niantic have planned for these 2 legendary Pokemon?

The most recent Pokemon Go update released on November 1, and not long after that, a data miner by the name of ZeChrales uncovered something that's getting peoples attention: Assets belonging to two particular Pokemon.

ZeChrales consistently would post the data mined files onto their GitHub page, and as they combed through all the changes, they discovered full renders of legendary Pokemon Ho-oh and Celebi. This isn't too surprising considering the release of the second generation Pokemon a few months back. As it currently stands, they remain to be two of the four Pokemon of that generation that has not been capturable one way or another.

Lugia's debut to Pokemon Go was back in July, and since then, fans have been anxiously waiting for the release of Lugia's legendary partner, Ho-oh. A popular community theory was that they were withholding the firey bird for the autumnal season - possibly even Thanksgiving.

While that was purely talking and rumor, Ho-oh's implementation happening now reinforce the speculation. Celebi being included in this update was more surprising to hear, and while both models are fully made and ready, it is uncertain what Niantic plans to do with them.

The only two remaining Pokemon that remains to be unseen from the second generation are Delibird and Smeargle. This leads us to believe that they are also being saved for a special event release. While Delibird can most certainly be linked to Christmas time, Smeargle could be for anything.
