New Overwatch Game Mode Revealed: Weekly Brawl

Blizzard seems to have one driving philosophy carry them throughout their many games and franchises: “Why use a good idea once when you could use it all the time?” And it’s that coda that’s gotten us such things as cow levels, intricate but sometimes superfluous CGI cinematics, endless expansions to WoW, inter-game connectivity, MOBAs as a genre, and of course, eSports.

Just because it started sarcastically doesn’t mean it has to end that way.

Anyway, they’re falling into old habits with Overwatch, this time channeling Hearthstone for inspiration--they recently revealed that much like the popular albeit extremely casual Tavern Brawl mode, Overwatch will also have a goofy, non-competitive game mode, called… “The Weekly Brawl”.

Blizzard must be going green, cuz that’s some pretty impressive recycling.
 

In one Weekly Brawl, you’ll only be able to play Soldier: 76, while in another Weekly Brawl, a random hero will be selected for you each time you respawn. Other Weekly Brawls will restrict you to Support heroes only, or Tank heroes only, or Defense heroes only—and more!

Now, since the game is currently in open beta, the weekly brawl will be rotating every day, but during the full release, they’ll change it to one weekly brawl a week. So, look forward to that.
