If you caught our previous news item on the new Ouya console, you might be interested to learn that it's getting quite close to releasing to the masses!

The developers behind this new platform have announced that the $99 Android powered Ouya console will launch June 4 in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

"Nine months ago, we shared an idea for an immersive, beautiful, and powerful game console that generated an outpouring of support from game developers, gamers, technology enthusiasts, and more," Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman said in a statement.

According to Ouya, more than 8,000 developers are creating games for the platform! Ouya will also support a pleathora of apps... These include streaming video and music software like TwitchTV, Flixster, Plex, XBMC, Crunchyroll, iHeartRadio, and many more.

Expect to see it landing at Amazon, Best Buy, GAME, GameStop, and Target soon after its release date. The Ouya console will launch a new version every year to take advantage of component price drops. So how does this strategy sound to you? Will it be a massive success or an epic flop???
