New Octopath Traveler Screenshots Reveal World Map, Character Traits

Publisher Square Enix released more screenshots for their upcoming JRPG Octopath Traveler, including a world map. But It begins with Cyrus and Ophilia, two of the game's characters.

Cyrus the scholar can use three different elements of magic: fire, ice, and lightning. This makes him a potent player, using an enemy's weakness against them. Ophilia plays a more supportive role, using recovery magic to resurrect fallen teammates, support magic to provide greater defenses, and light magic to fight back.

This is also our first look at the world map of Octopath Traveler. Here we can see all eight regions, each acting as the starting point for each hero. Cyrus is from Flatland, Ophilia from Frostland, Haanit from the Woodlands, Therion from the Clifflands, Alfyn from Riverland, Primrose from Sunland, Olberic from the Highlands, and Tressa from Coastland.



We also see more about the combat. The swordsman class uses swords (surprise) and spears, while Merchants use only spears. Dancers use daggers, Pharmacists use axes, Hunters use bows and axes, Thieves use daggers and swords, and Scholars and priests both use staves. Each class also has an attribute to it, with the exception of the neutral swordsman. Dancers have darkness. Merchants have wind. Pharmacists are associated with ice. Hunters have thunder. Thieves have fire. Scholars can master fire, ice, and thunder. Priests have light.
