Blizzard is a company that's good at two things: creating competitive, hardcore games that dominate eSport scenes, and creating games that are fun, accessible, and casual-friendly. One wouldn't normally think that possible, but Blizzard accomplishes this by giving their games surprising depth, multiple avenues of play, and, of course, things like Brawl Modes, which are casual, crazy modes in games like Overwatch and Hearthstone that gives players a chance to goof off in an extremely non-serious mode that just exists to break the rules for a few good larfs.

And now, Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's premier casual MOBA, is getting the same treatment with the newly-announced Hero Brawl. These weekly rotating modes will all have unique rules, special rewards, and add a whole lot of 'whacky' to the way the game is played.

Here's the trailer, done in standard Blizzard style:

And some examples of the new mode:
  • Hammer Time
Hover tanks for everyone! All players on each team are Sgt. Hammers - with thrusters are permanently engaged! The cores are invulnerable so it's all about capturing towers to win!
  • Punisher Arena
Rack up points by killing enemy heroes and Punishers. The first team to score 100 points wins!
  • Lost Cavern
A standard map, except there is only one lane. How will you fare when the enemy is in your face at all times?

Sounds neat. It'll be coming October 17th, so we still have a small wait, but it seems like a cool way to breathe life into a decent MOBA title.
