Mojang, the developers behind the world famous sandbox game Minecraft, announced that they'd be working with Telltale Games back in 2014 to develop a decision-tree style game in the Minecraft universe. It released not long after and was a mild success. Then Netflix announced that they'd be adapting THAT into an interactive Netflix series.
The official webpage for said series now lists the release as November 7. A short tagline describes the setting and interactive aspect of the show.
"You control this playable adventure set in the world of Minecraft. With a team of friends by your side, your decisions shape the story. Choose wisely!"
This is the most recent in a line of news segments relating to Telltale games and their recent shutdown. The game company announced a closure, with their remaining game canceled, back in September. This sparked a discussion as to the working conditions of the company, particularly regarding how they handled their mass layoffs. It also brought into question what would come of their remaining games, such as Stranger Things and The Walking Dead.
Clearly, the interactive Minecraft Story Mode was too close to completion to fall out entirely. Telltale also likely had contractual obligations to both Mojang and Netflix regarding the project.
