Netflix to Produce a Live-Action Pokemon TV Series

We hope you liked Detective Pikachu, because Netflix is working on making their own live action Pokémon TV series.

According to a report by Variety, Netflix is going to produce a Pokémon show that combines live-action and CGI elements. The show will be written and produced by Joe Henderson (Lucifer Exec Producer). Their sources compare the visual style to that of 2019s Detective Pikachu.

While a surprise to be sure, we also kind of expected something like this. Netflix has been home to a wide variety of Pokémon movies and TV shows, including the original anime and the MewTwo Strikes Back film. Detective Pikachu proved to be a massive success, and with the continued interest in film/tv adaptions of video game franchises, it makes complete sense that this would all lead to Netflix making their own Pokémon show.

Details about the show, such as an expected launch window, general plot line, or cast, remain completely unknown. Odds are, theyre still very early in pre-production and many of these details havent even been established internally. With that in mind, itll likely be a good long time until it actually releases.

If they manage to capture the magic that Detective Pikachu had, then were all for this. Just please dont make it another protagonist in a cross-country car ride movie like all the others.
