2015 has been the year of the reboot, remaster, and the sequel. To anyone seeking a new IP, this year is coming up fairly short, for reboots and remasters appear to be the new trend. The returns of DOOM, Guitar Hero Live, and Rockband have surfaced, and remastered editions of games are easily countable on both hands.

Reboots are becoming very common, and today, the announcement of the Need for Speed reboot only engraves the fact further into our brains. Ghost Games, the EA studio behind the reboot, aims to begin fresh in order to deliver what fans have desired in Need for Speed. Apparently, the series has lost its way, no longer representing what it once was: deep customization, urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative.

To quote Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games:

"Pulling on our 20 years of history, and then taking a year out from releasing a game, we are making the game we've always wanted to. We're listening to the fans and delivering an experience that will capture their imagination and unleash their passion for cars and speed."

Need for Speed will collaborate with Speedhunters, EA's car community, to research and develop the game that will intoxicate gamers with an exciting world full of adventure, discovery, and the car lifestyle.

Need for Speed will launch in the fall of 2015 on EA Origin for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The teaser trailer below contains 34 seconds of logos, reckless street driving, classic police chases, and iSHi's Push It. Additional note: The footage, which is undeniably stunning, is captured in-game.

The first official trailer will unveil on June 15, 2015.
