Nearly the Entire NieR Sequel is Being Developed by Platinum Games

This isn't a bad thing, I promise.

Okay Nier fans, here's something that may be of interest for you. So Nier is a niche game and soon to be series, right? Well, it turns out the development for the sequel will take place at the Platinum Games studios, though Taro Yoko, the director of the original Nier, is still at the helm. Designer Yasuhisa Taura tells GameSpot:

"Yes, the development is mostly taking place here at Platinum [in Osaka], and in our Tokyo office. But we are of course getting help from Square Enix, and the composer for the original game is back to make new music. Also, the character design is being done by Akihiko Yoshida who works on CyDesignation, so we are borrowing people from other companies. But the majority of development is being done here."

Taura was actually the mastermind behind the concept of the Nier sequel, being such a huge fan of the original (and I don't blame him for that):

"I was thinking of creating something new and I'm a really big fan of the original Nier. I was creating a video game proposal that was something along the lines of a sequel to Nier. Right around the time I was doing this, Square Enix actually came to us to ask if we wanted to do something with them, some kind of project. They didn't mention Nier specifically, but they said they wanted to do something with us. So we said, 'Okay, we have an idea for a Nier sequel, so let's do that.' And that's how it happened."

But why some sequel? Not that I'm complaining because squeal!

"One of the big reasons is I love action RPGs in general, and the first Nier game had such a wonderful blend of serious story with some really wacky parody elements of other video games. It's that juxtaposition of seriousness and wackiness--it's something that I really liked about that game. Above all else, the music and the script are what caught my attention the most."

He was nervous as hell pitching the idea for the sequel, but when he was given the thumbs up, he couldn't have been happier. However, that happiness does come with some nervousness, because there's a "pretty hardcore following here in Japan that really liked the original title, so there's going to be a lot of people with high expectations of our sequel."

I'm so excited for the second Nier, and it seems that this title will still continue with the blend of seriousness and wackiness that seeped into the original. However, what's even more exciting is that the combat system will assuredly be more fun than the original game's system and it will also intertwine with the story.

Nier's sequel is actually a bit of a challenge for Taura, believe it or not:

"This is the first time I've gotten to work on an RPG, so it brings a lot of interesting new elements with it. I've had a lot of fun playing around with that kind of system design."

Augh, the first one is so good, despite the not so wonderful graphics and gameplay, but the story, characters, and music makes up for more than enough. Just thinking about the sequel, as well as the plot about it, is just more than heart-throbbing. I can't wait. Is it out yet!?
