Mortal Kombat X has been out long enough to get a Game of the Year edition, so, that’s what Warner Brothers was doing when it announced earlier yesterday Mortal Kombat XL, which is so clever I’m surprised I didn’t hurt myself trying to imitate the wit. It’s got the base Mortal Kombat X game, plus Kombat Packs 1 and 2, the latter of which hasn’t even been launched individually yet.
Although it sounds pretty cool. The Kombat Pack 2 comes with several new character skins, and three new fighters: the Alien from the Alien franchise, Leatherface, Bo' Rai Cho, Triborg, and Goro.
Unfortunately, if you have the PC version of Mortal Kombat X, then I have some bad news for you: the WB is performing a fatality on your hopes and dreams. Again, if you’re still bitter about Batman: Arkham Knight. When the announcement of the Kombat Pack 2 was made, they revealed it would be released for Xbox One and PS4 come March 1st… but when fans took to twitter to ask about the PC release, NetherRealm Studios was very forthright with the answer: never. It’s never coming. The Kombat 2 pack, and Mortal Kombat XL, is a console exclusive.
Now, this begs two questions--the first is, of course, why? I mean, yes, Arkham Knight may have shaken the WB’s confidence in PC development, but the base game is already released and (more or less) working… why hesitate now? Do they just hate money? Or are they bitter that PC gamers were so angry about Arkham KNight they decided to ‘punish’ them by removing their right for DLC?
The second, of course--why is there so little news this week?
That has nothing to do with Mortal Kombat, but I’m still wondering regardless.
