Mortal Kombat is returning to the Big Screen! Warner Bros. is reportedly working on a new animated film following the exploits of the frontrunning fighter, Scorpion.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the film company is working on a new animated film called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge.
The film will star Patrick Seitz, who voices Scorpion in Mortal Kombat X, as well as Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Jordan Rodrigues as Lui Kang, Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, and David B. Mitchell as Raiden.
The film is being produced by Rick Morales and Jim Kreig, both who have a history with producing Batman films. To help ensure creative accuracy, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon will be on board as a consultant.
In Mortal Kombat lore, Scorpion is the undead specter of Hanzo Hasashi, a warrior of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan. He became a revenant after being killed by Sub-Zero, who belonged to a rival clan known as the Lin Kuei. Since then, Scorpion has been bent on revenge for the loss of his life and the death of his family.
Based on this, we can assume that the movie will focus on the fighter's revenge against the Lin Kuei. If not them, then he might target Quan Chi, who manipulated Scorpion into fighting for him.
An official release date for the film has not been revealed, though they intend to premiere the movie later this year. Stay tuned for more information.
