Mortal Kombat Creator Dunks on Rumored Roster Leak

Be careful who you trust.

With Mortal Kombat 11 now confirmed, fans have been excitingly speculating about who will return for the fighting game's roster. Of course, this also means a new wave of falsified "leaks." Fortunately for us, Ed Boon is here to shut them down with gusto.

So far, only three characters have been confirmed to be in the game, Raiden, Scorpion, and Shao Kahn. There are rumors and speculation for others, but nothing confirmed.

Ed Boon, the original creator of Mortal Kombat, recently tweeted a picture of the film Bird Box, which featured two blindfolded characters. He joked that this was an image of "Sandra Bullock starring in KENSHI: A Mortal Kombat origin story," and was the confirmation of Kenshi in the new game.

This tweet was responded to with a screenshot of the "leaked" roster, with the poster claiming that they already knew.

Instead of silence, or a well-structured PR response, Boon shuts it down quick and painlessly.

"Ha! Bring that tweet up after you see the real roster & let's see what you say then! "

The inclusion if Kenshi is very likely. He's been in the series since the beginning and is well known as Boon's second favorite character. The important part of this is that he firmly addressed a supposed leak, confirming it as false.

This goes to show you that anyone claiming to have insider information without proof should be taken with a certain level of skepticism.

That said, it's our turn to wildly speculate. The last two Mortal Kombat games have followed in a linear story, with each game a generation after the last. This allowed the introduction of the children of past fighters, such as Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs. If they follow this same route, we may see some older characters take a backseat, while their grandchildren put up arms.

The only way we will know for sure is when the game releases on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23, 2019.
