After over a decade of nothing, Monster Ranger is rising from the dead. Koei Tecmo has opened an official Twitter account for the game series.
The account pays homage to Monster Ranger 2's 20th anniversary in one of the only two posts made so far. A picture of Colt alongside a monster is captioned with "Colt: Hmm... can you believe that? I've been working together for 20 years now!" (translated from Japanese).
The series began in 1997 for the PlayStation. It, and the 17 games that would follow, were all centered around the idea of generating and breeding monsters together to create the biggest, fastest, and strongest. It's been 11 years since the last Monster Ranger game (unless you count the mobile game they released in 2011). Not much has been said about the franchise since.
The decision to create a Twitter account now implies something, but we simply don't know what. Some speculate that it will be a remaster or remake of Monster Ranger 2, others are hoping for a new iteration on the series. So far, the account has only posted pictures of Monster Ranger 2 protagonist Colt, while also referencing the game's 20th anniversary, so the former idea seems most likely.
For all we know, this is the IP that Nintendo was rumored to be reviving. Stay tuned as more information becomes available.
