I've said it before and I'll say it again: Monster Hunter is astonishingly popular in Japan. Capcom might seem like a dying company here in the west, but in the land of the Rising Sun, they don't need Megaman or Dead Rising: all they need is their iconic monster-tracking-and-slaying simulator. And while the company has had... mixed results sending that over to the states, there's little doubt that the game is a huge deal. So huge, in fact, that the simple fact that the next game in the franchise Monster Hunter XX is coming to the Switch is enough to make Nintendo's stock value shoot up 5%.
First, the trailer: and yes, it might look a bit low-res, but that's because it's the 3DS version of the game.
Looks like a pretty standard Monster Hunter game, right? Maybe that's all it needs to be: with the giant boost in their stock prices with the launch of this trailer, Nintendo's stocks have hit a high unmatched since October 2008. Investors clearly think this game will be a console mover, and historically they have every reason to suspect as much. Best of all, even though there's no indication yet the game will make it to western shores, since the Switch is region-free you can import it anyway with no problems at all.
Oh, and it was just announced that the two versions of the game, for the Switch and 3DS, will have cross-play. How cool is that?
It seems things have really turned around for the Big N. But can it keep this up, I wonder...?
