Monster Hunter: World talked a big game during development about bringing everyone together. One way they did this was by merging the online quests and story quests together. This sounds fine at first until you discover that if someone joining hasn't seen the cutscene for the monster they were about to fight, they couldn't join the battle. Since multiplayer is now tied into the game's campaign, this happens constantly.
Community heads are remarking on the complicated and inefficient process of creating and expanding the new squad functionality. Steve Black Jr, Producer of the popular Monster Hunter podcast "The Carve," had this to say.
"They ruined the thing I was most excited about. It is fixable"
As it currently stands, the "easiest" way to play with friends is to play a mission, get the cutscene, quit the mission, and then form a party. A clunky and inconvenient process to do ever 20 minutes.
Many online Monster Hunter communities are growing increasingly frustrated with these completely adverse yet intentional restrictions set for a game that preached togetherness. With any luck, Capcom will release a game patch that resolves these issues. Until then, you should probably look up a guide on how to play with friends.
