When Monster Hunter World first came out, it launched with a little in-game quest related to the PlayStation 4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, which allowed you to do some quests in order to unlock skins for your Palico (to dress them up as a robot) and even yourself, turning your character into an Aloy skin. Nothing unusual for a Monter Hunter game, which typically loves these kinds of crossover content deals.
But then only a month in, we got another cross-promotional content deal, where you could do quests to unlock a Ryu skin. And while you couldn’t punch monsters to death while wearing it (unless you spammed a SHURUKEN emote which cost like 4 bucks), it was still pretty neat to see the heavily stylized Ryu in the vivid jungles of Monster Hunter.
Think we’re done already? Haha, no: not by a long shot. Because now, Monster Hunter World is throwing some Devil May Cry in the mix with this pitch-perfect trailer:
While the other two collaborations gave you full body skins, this time around, all you’ll unlock is a new wig and Dante’s trademark coat, which will come in male and female forms. But you’ll also get a special charged blade that looks like Dante’s signature weapon, Rebellion, so you can really play the part. On top of that, it seems there’ll be another emote you can buy, where you rapid-fire pistols to the side, which appear to deal damage in the same way Ryu’s did… although it wouldn’t be much, if I had to wager.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it’ll add subtitles to monster’s roars. So really, what’s the point in being excited?
Kidding aside, it’s cool to see all this stuff being released for the game post-launch, but I think I speak for other Monster Hunter fans in saying I’d like to see more actual content and less “temporary quests I have to grind to earn novelty stuff”.
But, hey, take what you can get, right?
