In a Server News post on the Scrolls website, Lead game designer Måns Olson announced that the official Scrolls servers will be shutting down soon. He details their plans post-shutdown, as well as details some farewell events they've planned.
The official game servers will shut down on Tuesday, February 13. Prior to this, Mojang will be having a "Play with Mojang" day, where you can play with the developers on February 9, around 3:00 PM CET. No word on which members of Mojang are participating.
They will also be hosting a Community Tournament. The event will take place February 11, at 5:00 PM CET. You can find more details about this on the official Scrolls Subreddit post.
Olsen said the following regarding community hosted servers.
"We've made some progress towards being able to release the server software to the public, together with a slightly modified client that is able to connect to such servers. While we are still unable to guarantee this will happen or set a date, we have high hopes that we'll be able to do this in the next few weeks or months."
Scrolls was originally only planned to last until July 2016, so while it's sad to see it closing, I'm impressed it lasted as long as it did. My sympathies to those who still play the game today.
