While the Sydney Opera House has been used for plenty of events in the past, Minecraft isn't normally what comes to mind. They decided to plan a giant Minecraft competition, pitting over one thousand children against each other in combat.
Over the course of the festival, the Sydney Opera House had three sessions of battles. Every session consisted of 7 rounds, and in each round competed 48 children. It was a free-for-all death match, crowning the last child alive champion and giving them an exclusive interview. While the post-match interviews weren't the most spectacular thing in the world, the kids got the chance to see themselves on the big screen.
Although Minecraft is typically thought of as an imaginative building game of survival, there was no building competitions held. I think it would be amazing to see one, and I'm sure if I were to dive deeper in the Internet I could certainly find one, but this battle royale will have to do for now. Perhaps in a few years the Sydney Opera House will bring back all the children that competed, who will at that point be angsty teens, and have them compete in a CoD Quickscope Tourney.
