You know, back when Mojang was first purchased by Microsoft, and Minecraft became their baby, I postulated that the purchase was questionable, because at that point it seemed like anyone who wanted Minecraft already had a copy, and the 'craze' just may have been coming to an end. In this, as with many things, I turned out to be completely wrong. While Minecraft certainly doesn't seem as prominent in the gaming sphere anymore, that's largely because it's become so ubiquitous, and extended so far outside the gaming world that it's something like a Lovecraftian elder god: present, but just... outside our comprehension.
Well, to really prove that Microsoft's purchase was anything but faulty, the folks over at Mojang have released a new info-graphic celebrating the fact that Minecraft is now the second-most popular game in the history of gaming, having sold over 100 million copies around the globe. Wow.
Some of the facts are just staggering. Check it out here, because our image uploading is broken.
53,000 copies a day, in every continent. Minecraft is only behind Tetris in number of games sold, and it might one day even catch up to that. Everyone knew Minecraft was a success, but to have doubled the amount of copies sold in two years is staggering.
Well. No time to start doubting it now. Minecraft is still our god and king, so get ready to bow, plebeians.
