Yes, you read that right. Everybody's favorite open world block game is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Minecraft is such a successful game, that it coming to the Nintendo Switch shouldn't come as a surprise. It's a game that both children and adults enjoy equally due to its simple nature, yet capability for amazing things. Nintendo has officially announced that Microsoft's Minecraft will be digitally released to the Switch on May 11th with a physical release scheduled later down the road.
Nintendo made the announcement during their latest Direct stream in which they also officially announced the release dates for both Splatoon 2 and Arms: July 21 and June 16. The Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft will support both local and online play, allowing up to 4 person split-screen and 8 player online lobbies. This transition will be handled by 4J Studios, the same developer that handled Minecraft being ported over to Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS Vita and Wii U. It seems that no platform will be safe from the clutches of Minecraft. Telltale's adaptation of Minecraft was also confirmed to be releasing to the Switch, but no release date or any further details were discussed.
The Nintendo Switch won't likely be receiving Minecraft's new marketplace for user created skins and maps as it seems to be limited to the PC for the time being. Nintendo also announced that Microsoft's Super Mario Mash-up resource pack will also be coming to the Switch, turning the world of Minecraft into a block version of the Super Mario world, allowing players to explore with characters such as Waluigi and Luigi. It's a happy day for Minecraft and Switch fans alike. Stay tuned to GZU for constant updates on the Nintendo Switch's ever growing lineup of games.
