Mojang, the studio behind the world-sensation called Minecraft, may have started out as a small studio in Sweden. But they're much more now. And now it's time to reflect that change with a re-branding. Introducing Mojang Studios.
Now Mojang and Microsoft are owned and operated by Microsoft. They have offices all over the world, from the US to Japan. To both celebrate the original studio's 11-year anniversary and to help better reflect what they are now, the company has been renamed to Mojang Studios and a new logo has been revealed.
The announcement blog post, which came with a neat little video, explains how the company developed and why it's changing.
The logo itself doesn't look tremendously different. They've opted to change to a more interesting font in white with a red background, removing the previous logo of an... apple? We were never very sure what that was, to be honest.
This also very much seems like the decision advised by Microsoft. Rebranding is a very corporate thing to do, opting for change to best meet consumer estimations and trending themes. Not that it much matters who made the decision.
Don't expect this to reflect as a change in studio behavior, though. Minecraft will still be developed the same way as it has been. Why change it now, before they release the anticipated Nether update, after all?
