Additionally and though backers of the campaign have been none too keen on the delay of Mighty No. 9's demo, the Special Demo Version has been finally released (as of a couple days ago) thanks to comcept's partners at Humble Bumble. According to instructions, all you need to do to access the demo is to use the email address that's attached to your Kickstarter or Paypal pledge to login to the Humble Bundle website, and the download link will be waiting for you.
Attached to this particular announcement is an apology:
"We are extremely sorry for the delay in delivering this demo to you, but we hope you enjoy your time with it! Also, as a result of switching to DRM-Free distributions, there is obviously not a cut-off date for this demo. You are also welcome to stream or record gameplay videos to share with your friends and followers!"
So the good news? Mighty No. 9 has gone DRM-free. The bad news? There are people that are vocally negative with their experiences.
Players are currently having issues accessing or even locating the demo, even with given workarounds. Even worse, a lot of backers do not seem to be pleased with the demo itself. Here are some of the negative reactions:
"I played the demo with a PS3 controller. It was fine but definitely not what I expected. I didn't find any bugs but the graphics looks like a PS2 game and not one of the best. I don't look forward [to] the final game release. Didn't like the dash mechanic. It's weird since I love Mega Man games. But this one doesn't have a soul, just feels more like a bland copy. Probably the last game I backed on Kickstarter."
"The demo goes against everything that made Megaman great... This is... unbelievable."
The demo itself is Windows only, and is only for people who pledged over $20, despite what the Kickstarter page saying about $5 tier members receiving chances to participate in backer-only events.
A little bit of a blow, if you ask me, especially when people believed (rightfully so) that the demo was accessible to every backer.
But if you're having issues locating the demo on Humble Bundle, you can try referring to the unclaimed purchases and see if Mighty No. 9 is snuggled in there. There are a few that are pleased with the demo, but it seems that there are more negative voices out there. Then again, those who are unhappy with the experience are more likely to comment than those happy with the experience, so hopefully there are people that are having a great time, without issue, with the demo.
Then again, when the game once looked like this screenshot, I can start to see the disappointment in the demo.
