“This is a project that would not have existed without the support of our backers, so we at least wanted to deliver this news to our backers before it is officially announced. We are unable to confirm a final release date at this time, however we will be aiming for a release in Q1 2016. Once a solid release date is set, we will announce it immediately to our backers and fans. All of the core content for the game is developed and in a complete state… there are still bugs and issues pertaining to the online features (of the game). These bugs and issues have a direct affect on enjoyment of the game, so a decision was made to work these issues out before release."
So, that’s pretty bad news, particularly following the news of Red Ash’s kickstarter failure and the reveal that they had a publisher the whole time anyway. Trust in Mr. Inafune is reaching an all-time low… and I’m starting to wonder how long he can ride on the successes of his former creation.
I have to say, it’s odd seeing a games industry veteran, someone with a lot of experience in the world of development, fall into the traps and troupes of the indie development world. Perhaps it stems from a lack of experience without a proper publisher, or maybe he just wasn’t that good with it to begin with, but… regardless, no amount of speculating will make Might No. 9 come out any faster. We’ll just have to hope the wait is worth it.
