Midora Kickstarter Fails, Director Offers Refunds

A rare gesture of good faith in the crowdfunding world.

Kickstarters come, Kickstarters go, and while we’re all very happy when they succeed, they don’t always… and while some, such as The Doom that Came to Atlanta City, or Code Hero, fail and are jerks in the process, others fail and just come off as sad. Joining the latter category is Midora, a retro-inspired 2D adventure game, which had managed to raise $73,000 over Kickstarter and yet still wasn’t able to be finished… nor was it able to find outside investors the way Red Ash or Indivisible did. So, with no prospects or chance to turn things around, the game’s director, William “Mhyre” Ledent, announced that his crowd-funded dream had failed, and that he was going to be issuing refunds.

Eventually.

“I first have to pay back close relatives and other parties that helped me way before the kickstarter. Then, I will have to stabilize my own situation. I can’t offer refunds as soon as I earn money from a new job. I will need to save up money to create my own insurance, to be able to cover unexpected situations, emergencies. However, once that’s done, I don’t have many options and I won’t be able to offer refunds to certain people. Some people have pledged quite a bit of money on this Kickstarter and I can’t exactly repay them in full. Not at first.”

So, for now, it’s the end of the dream. A sad day for the director and the people who were interested in his vision, but what can you do? Regardless, if you’re interested in getting a refund (assuming you backed the project), then you’ll need to wait till summer, when he can afford to start issuing refunds. Additionally, you should get yourself a paypal account, since that’s the only way he’ll be able to send you money. Also, he would very much appreciate it if you didn’t ask for a refund, so, if you feel like just letting him keep that money, he’d certainly be grateful.  But hey--considering he doesn't have to offer backers squat, I'd say this is still super generous of him.  Delayed and begrudging, but it's better than nothing, right?

Regardless, despite the lost prospects, he’s still holding Midora in his heart, and he has every intention of finishing it one day. That day just isn’t today. Or anytime soon.  Still, you seem like a cool guy, William--here's hoping for the best.
