There’s some excitement brewing for the upcoming follow-up to Shadow of Mordor, Middle Earth: Shadow of War. People are excited at the idea of building and raiding strongholds, actually getting to know the orcs you’ll be commanding, entering fierce battle with the legions of monsters you never got to fight in the first game, yet run rampant through the extended Lord of the Rings mythos… what they’re NOT excited for is to see what happened to our forgettable ranger protagonist and his ghost-elf buddy.
And yet, our next trailer for the game details the game’s plot. Joy of joys. Better than nothing, I guess.
It’s not enough to have the most boring backstory and protagonist in all of fiction, you also had to make the dullest trailer imaginable. Come on, guys, try something new for a change, eh?
But as a revisionist history of the Lord of the Rings goes, could be worse. I wonder if it will go all the way and just start turning into a fully-fledged alternate universe, or if it’ll try to keep the pretense of being a prequel. Hard to imagine more people wouldn’t have noticed an immortal man-elf building an army behind the walls of Mordor, after all.
Ah, crap, now I’ve gotten all interested in the plot. I need to go wash my brain with some sanitizer.
