Microsoft Opens Up Cross-Network Play for Xbox One

Here's some really big news from Microsoft's end. Microsoft has announced earlier today that it will be opening support for "Cross-Network Play", which will finally allow Xbox Owners to play games with anyone on the PlayStation 4 and PC. So far, only support for Rocket League has been announced for later this spring, and this entire decision will be on the developers. Microsoft made the announcement on its ID@Xbox indie publishing program, so this act may only be limited to indie titles, but maybe the corporation is willing to open up to bigger developers.

Either way, here's the official statement from ID@Xbox boss Chris Charla:

"In addiction to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we're enabling developers to support cross-network play as well."

"This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks - including other console and PC networks."

"Of course, it's up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players."

So does this mean we will see multi-platform players playing in harmony in games like Destiny, The Division or... Final Fantasy XIV? Perhaps!
