They look pretty basic.

Virtual reality talk is finally in the air over at Microsoft. Well, it's actually "mixed reality" talk, but it's the exact same thing. Microsoft has opted to refer to their VR experience as mixed reality, instead of the classing virtual reality. The company has also decided to show the world what they've come up with. Along with Acer, they have designed both a headset and a pair of controllers to go along with their VR program, and it looks halfway decent.

As you can see in the image up top, the headset looks pretty bare-bones. There's nothing flashy or fancy about this device, which is why it will be very inexpensive. Although no official release date has been set, Microsoft has said that you can get the controllers and headset in a bundle for about $399 this holiday. The controllers look like a mash-up of a bunch of different ideas. At first glance, they make me think of the HTC Vive controllers with the touchpad usage, but they also have a thumbstick right next to the pad, similar to the Oculus Touch controllers.

Microsoft has been talking about jumping into virtual reality for a while now, but they've always wanted to get their timing right. Hopefully, this is their moment. They have waited so long that I expect this to be the best thing on the market. They have had time to research successes and failures, and they have plenty of money to make the perfect device. Since the majority of people that want VR already have VR, Microsoft has to find some incredible way to convince them to buy another VR device for some reason. I don't know if Microsoft will be able to pull that off.
