Nintendo kicked things off by tweeting:
Hey @Xbox, since we can play together in @Minecraft now, did you want to build something?
Minecraft, referencing an old Nintendo-based meme, responded:
Our bodies are ready. What are we building?
And then the Minecraft twitter, which I remind you is owned by Microsoft, capped off the thread with:
Well since you two seem so lovey-dovey now, why not try building something like this? Have fun!
And threw in a picture of a heart, to really cement the friendship angle. But if you thought they were done, no sir: because at around the exact same time, Nintendo released a 30-second Minecraft video… showing a happy pair of gamers playing Minecraft together, one on a Switch and the other on an Xbox One.
Geez you two, get a room already.
Now, I’m not really one to congratulate giant companies for throwing shade at one another, but Sony’s attitude on cross-play has been a big problem for a long time and frankly, I’ll get behind any amount of pre-planned corporate tomfoolery if it shames Sony into doing something. And, to be fair, it won’t. Remember, there’s money in Sony’s selfishness, so they won’t even think twice about doing it. But, hey, who knows? Maybe the winds of change will blow…
