Now, look. You know me. At least, I assume you do. And in my assumptions, I assume you know that I don’t write much about fan works. I love fan projects as much as the next guy but generally I only like talking about news from game developers themselves. Feels more professional. Also their press releases do half my work for me.

But sometimes, I notice something I just can’t ignore. And when Kotaku drew my attention to this particular beauty, well--I couldn’t look away. So without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to Metroid: The Sky Calls.

Rainfall Films and director Sam Balcomb bring us this 11-minute short about Samus exploring Czono Ruins, Fighting Space Pirate drones, and staring at a bunch of screens. Samus is played by Nerdist’s Jessica Chobot, who does a passable job as the universe’s best bounty hunter, but what we’re really here for is impressive CGI and a modern look at Samus’s arsenal, which the movie does admirably.

It’s just so damn cool guys
. And it’s Metroid. With Samus in it, something Nintendo has neglected to do for years now.

Anyway. Just wanted to share.
